16x9

Two industry specialists will share their insights and leading practices in the domain of industrial wireless applications, offering a comprehensive perspective on the subject.

  • Alexander Bentkus will be presenting on the trials and implementation of flexible production processes in their own maintenance workshops in the context of Deutsche Bahn's 5G campus network.
  • Nick Schwarzenberg, fünfeinhalb Funksysteme, will provide a detailed account of the successful implementation of an emergency-stop interlinking system for mobile platforms at an automotive manufacturer.

Industrial 5G Networks at Deutsche Bahn: Areas of Application | Potential | Challenges
Alexander Bentkus, Deutsche Bahn

Deutsche Bahn is exploring the use of industrial 5G networks to optimize maintenance, servicing processes, and operational workflows. The focus is on 5G campus networks for workshops, providing reliable connectivity for applications such as digital documentation, firmware updates, autonomous intralogistics, and remote inspection. Initial tests at the Krefeld plant demonstrate technical potential, while further pilot projects at other locations are testing additional use cases. In his presentation, Alexander Bentkus will provide a concise overview of the current status of the tests, experiences, and existing challenges, along with an appeal to machine and tool manufacturers.

Success Story | Wireless Safety: Emergency-Stop Interlinking of Mobile Platforms in Production
Nick Schwarzenberg, fünfeinhalb Funksysteme

In a production line at a German automotive manufacturer, a secure emergency-stop interlinking system for 23 rail-guided platforms was implemented via a wireless network. The solution is based on the proprietary technology BlitzFunk. This enables PROFINET and PROFIsafe data to be transmitted reliably within the required cycle and monitoring times—even in a large-scale, metallic environment. The implementation provides increased fault tolerance, scalability, and advantages over wired alternatives. Deployment at additional sites is planned.
