The "Circular Production NRW" (ZiPo.NRW) funding call is entering the next round: applications can now be submitted until December 15, 2025.
We, the Micro Technologies department of VDMA EMINT, would like to create a research guide for our members with relevant research institutes from the world of microtechnology. The aim is to give our members an overview of the research landscape and thus an easy tool for finding potential project partners.
Growth and cutting-edge technological solutions characterize the world's leading trade fair for machine vision / Record number of exhibitors and strong increase in visitors in 2024
Conversions of machines and systems - complex and profitable projects for mechanical engineering and an opportunity or necessity for the operator?
When people talk about the future of production, they can't do so without using the term "smart factory." But what is it? How does a smart factory work? And what does it have to do with OPC UA?
With the availability of frequencies in the 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands, the industry holds the key to exploiting the full potential of 5G.
The trade association started the development of Companion Specifications in the field of textile machinery in 2019. As the first project, the Compainon Specfication "OPC UA for Fibre & Yarn Testing Devices" has now been published as a Release Candidate.
An unparalleled concentration of expertise - that's what the world's largest presentation forum for machine vision stands for. At the Industrial VISION Day you will find out about the latestes cutting-edge developments in the machine vision industry.
List of planned experience exchange events ("ERFA") from the North, VDMA Regional Association North and the Marine Equipment and Systems (MES) working group.
How do you get started with this topic? Often, first projects are set up too large and complex and do not lead to a successful conclusion. Therefore, some questions should be answered before starting a project.
Artificial intelligence is no longer just a technology of the future, it has already arrived in the everyday life of many mechanical engineers. Machine learning solutions in particular are being implemented in various fields of application.
VDMA Working Group Additive Manufacturing launches OPC UA activity
In July 2019, the Air Pollution Control department began developing a Companion Specification for "process air extraction and filtration systems". The aim is to develop a standardized interface for data exchange between process air extraction and filtration systems with each other, with upstream machines, with supporting systems or with higher-level production systems in a manufacturer- and platform-independent communication network.
Many existing machines are not yet networked with each other. The new VDMA guide "Retrofit for Industry 4.0" shows how they can nevertheless be integrated into the Industrial Internet of Things. The guide is available in German and English.
The guide "Self-learning Production Processes - Implementation Strategy for Reinforcement Learning in Industrial Practice" introduces the topic of Machine Learning and shows step by step how an implementation of industrial Reinforcement Learning can be carried out in one's own company. Application examples illustrate the procedure.
At HANNOVER MESSE - Digital Days on 15 July, the guide and descriptions of nine use cases on 5G in mechanical and plant engineering will be published. The occasion is the VDMA panel discussion "5G in mechanical engineering: from technology push to market pull". The guide and the use cases have been available exclusively to VDMA members since April 2020.
The "Intelligent and self-learning production processes" project investigated how machines can teach themselves optimal processes independently and through interaction with the environment using little data. The ML method "reinforcement learning" was used for this and tested on two applications.
With the 5G in mechanical and plant engineering guide and the use cases, the VDMA supports its members in identifying the potential applications and challenges of 5G.
Use cases for the guide - a practice-oriented tool for 5G applications (as of 2020 - current to date).
The OPC UA Working Group Compressed Air Systems, active since the beginning of 2019, has developed a specification on Main Control Systems/Compressed Air Systems. A scientific project with the TH Cologne supported this effort.
General information about Futurefit
An important basis for the successful introduction of Industry 4.0 is the manufacturer-independent exchange of data in production. The open interface standard OPC UA is increasingly established for this purpose. The VDMA guideline shows how companies can successfully introduce industry 4.0 communication with OPC UA.
