01. VDMA conference (2025) - Digital product passport
With the entry into force of the new EU Ecodesign Regulation, a far-reaching form of product regulation and information obligation for sustainable products and transparent product life cycles will be introduced and further developed in the EU. This will result in new and updated product requirements. Regulations from sectors such as battery manufacturing, the electronics industry and construction product manufacturing also apply. The introduction and processing of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) will be mandatory for selected product groups with regard to the new information requirements.

Manufacturers and operators of machinery and equipment produce goods and components for a wide range of industrial sectors worldwide. This also results in obligations for mechanical and plant engineering. For companies seeking the key to a circular economy and resource efficiency, the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is also an indispensable success factor. For this reason, the VDMA initiative “DPP for machinery” was founded. The 1st VDMA Digital Product Passport Conference will provide annual updates on current political framework conditions, regulatory requirements, and technological developments.
Why is the Digital Product Passport so important? It represents a structured collection of product-related, digitally accessible data. The data in the Digital Product Passport comes from all phases of the product life cycle and can therefore be used for various purposes in all phases – from the supply chain to sustainability assessment to recycling.
The focus of the 1st VDMA Digital Product Pass Conference is on what a digital product pass means in practical terms and how to proceed strategically with its introduction. Experts will inform you about the significance, implementation, and advantages of the Digital Product Passport. Discussions will cover the potential impact and obligation to introduce a DPP in mechanical and plant engineering, the necessary digitization of your own business processes, the requirements and framework set by EU regulations, and the significance for future international standardization.
